Crown removal pliers are helpful instruments in the removal of crowns. With the aid of crown removal pliers temporary cemented crowns can be removed. Definite cemented crowns usually have to be destroyed to remove them from the tooth.
These crown removal pliers have rubber inserts that you can dip into a little carborundum paste or an emery paste. It makes the rubber stick quite nicely to the ceramic. The rubber straps on the working ends of crown removal pliers avoid the scratching on the ceramic.
Why to Use Crown Remover Pliers?
Whenever you grab a posterior tooth with Hemostats and you try and rock it back and forth, it results in binding the restoration on the walls of the prepper well. But in fact, you want to pull the restoration straight down along its path of insertion. It can be easily done in the anterior, because you can grab and it pull in the straight downward direction. This is very difficult to do for posterior tooth crown remover.
Usually the crown is cut at one end and the gouges used to stretch out the crown a little. It can then be removed from the stump without damaging the tooth.
Another trick to use the concept of a fulcrum to remove the temporary cemented crowns. A toothbrush or similar material object can be use as the fulcrum. First grab the first molar with the Crown Removal Plier, but instead of twisting back and forth, put a toothbrush in the patient’s mouth coming out the side rest the crown removal plier on it and lift up in the front which will actually then pull the crown off in the back. This is a very effective technique to get off straight temporary cement without damaging it in the process.
